Many of today's best tablets are powerful enough to be excellent laptop alternatives. And those that aren't as powerful are still very capable of seeing you through general work-related tasks like sending out emails and typing up important documents or lighter creative workloads like drawing and design, thanks to their stylus support.

Whether you're looking for one of the best iPads or one of the best Android tablets, you'll get a lot out of that tablet you're getting. And, because these devices give you all the benefits of a touchscreen without making you pay a premium for the feature, you've got a portable that's extremely versatile but not as expensive as, say, some of the best 2-in-1 laptops.

Of course, it would be unwise to simply go out and get the priciest model you can afford. The iPad Pro, for example, might the the most powerful iPadOS-powered device, but it might be that what you need is an iPad Air, which means you'll be saving money and getting exactly the tablet that's ideal for you. Or, it might be that all you really need is one of the best cheap tablets.

The list is updated regularly, thanks to new tablets coming out all the time, so check back often to see what's changed. This may also be the time to pick up one of the best power banks too, to keep you juiced up all day long.

This is one of the best tablets we've tested, and the iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra only beat it in a few ways, like with their bigger screens, extra storage space and high-res displays. But if you don't have the money to stretch for those two premium tabs, this mid-range alternative could be great for you.

There are no guarantees with these devices, but you may be fine if the right parameters are in place. For instance, you need to make sure your Fire tablet is running Fire OS 5 or later for this to work. These links are for 32-bit devices, so we are talking about tablets that go back to 2017 and earlier.

These are the best Android tablets we've tested. If you're looking for a great phone to complement your new tablet, head over to our roundup of the best Android phones. Or if you want to look beyond the realm of Android, check out our roundups of the best tablets overall, which includes our favorite Apple options.

While the standard iPad works only with the standard Smart Keyboard Folio and the first-generation Apple Pencil, the Air works with the same accessories as the 11-inch iPad Pro (which we recommend in our guide to the best professional tablets). That means you can use the second-generation Apple Pencil for digital art and the Magic Keyboard if you do a lot of typing and want a laptop replacement. Although we maintain that the iPad Pro is better for people who work in illustration or create content with their tablet, the Air is priced so that the tablet, stylus, and keyboard together cost less than $1,000.

Like the ultra-cheap tablets that came before, the DigiLand DL 7 has the absolute minimum specs needed to get a tablet out the door. It might not have the best performance among the bottom of the barrel tablets, but it does offer a feature not found on previous ultra-cheap tablets: a dual-core CPU.

The best tablets for video editing are so much better than they used to be. Once, the idea of video editing on a tablet might have seemed like a pipe dream; now, with the raw computing power that most mainstream tablets contain, they're basically slimmed-down laptops. This, plus the ever-better quality of tablet screens, makes them a fantastic choice for video editing.

If you want to spend less on a Samsung tablet, Samsung's FE series of devices are designed with Samsung fans in mind. That is, the company takes the best features of its high-end devices, trims some of them down, and releases a more affordable product.

IT really depends on what size tablet you're looking for, what features are most important to you, and how much money you're willing to spend. Below, we've broken down the best Samsung tablets to help make your decision easier.

You get three cameras: a 13-megapixel wide lens, a 6MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP front camera for all the cool selfies you want to take ... although we're not sure if a tablet is the best device for photography. You can get far better photos and angles from a smartphone. However, the tablet's camera is great for video conferencing and scanning documents, in case you decide to take it to work.

This isn't the best tablet for heavy gaming or multitasking considering its Exynos 9611 chipset, but it's more than good enough for reading documents, writing, browsing the internet, using social media platforms, and texting your friends.

As more features are added to the Apple iPad and iPad Pro, they're becoming more useful and flexible tools. These days, many people use an iPad as a primary device for everyday browsing and getting work done, both while at home and on the road. However, typing on a touchscreen can be frustrating, so there are keyboards specifically designed for iPads that you can use to enhance your typing experience. Many of the best keyboards for iPad pro or iPad tablets come in folio cases, so you'll have to make sure it fits your specific device, while others are stand-alone keyboards, so you can use them as long as they have Bluetooth support.

If you want to use the Surface Go 3 as a tablet, you can. If you're going to use it as a laptop, you can, thanks to the optional keyboard that clips on and off at will. If you want to use a pen to draw and write, you can. And all of that on a well-priced, well-made, iconic-looking device. You can't argue with all of that value and versatility, which is why the Surface Go 3 is one of the best Windows tablets around.

What if you're interested in a tablet for professional use? For a bit more money, you could upgrade to the 11-inch iPad Pro. This starts at $799 for 128GB of storage. Of course, this isn't cheap, but if you want the best tablet experience, it's probably worth the extra cost.

We've looked at the reasons that Android tablets really aren't worth buying. The market is mostly stagnant, with old devices and outdated versions of Android dominating it. The best modern Android tablet is way more expensive than an iPad, which makes it a waste for casual users. In every case, another device beats the Android tablet offering.

The best tablet for you will come down to how you want to use it. If you're gaming, you'll want one with tons of power and long battery life, while if you're only sending the occasional email, you can save yourself some money and get yourself a cheaper model.

We've rounded up the best tablet choices for 2023 so that you can find your perfect partner. With models big and small, cheap and pricey, there's sure to be something that fits your needs. Let's find it.

The best tablets can detect how hard or soft you press with a stylus and even if you tilt the pen. Sensitivity is measured in pressure levels and the higher it is, the greater the sensitivity. The best tablets currently offer pressure levels of up to 8192 which is incredibly sensitive and gives you full control over how thick or thin lines are depending how hard you press. In general, you should go for the drawing tablet with the maximum pressure level you can afford.

Broadly, Android tablets make great media players, ebook readers, and kids' devices (if you want a tablet specifically for children, check out our story on the best kids' tablets), but they rarely compete with iPads when it comes to versatility and performance.

What's a tablet without quality apps? If you want third-party apps that work with a touch-screen interface, nothing beats the iPad's massive library of programs and games. The App Store is well curated and monitored, offers a deep selection, and includes every popular app in existence. Apple is your best bet if a wide range of compelling apps that look good and work well on your tablet is your main priority. For more, see the best iPad apps and the best Apple Arcade Games.

Android has made great strides in app selection, but it's still not home to as many as Apple offers. It's tough to say exactly how many tablet-optimized Android apps are available, but it's far fewer than on the iPad. You can use Android phone apps of course, which look decent on a 7-inch tablet, but less so on a 9- or 10-inch device. Check out the best Android apps for our top picks.
